"Parts Work," a framework used by Internal Family Systems, Depth Hypnosis, Shamanism, and several other methodologies, helps you get to know, love, heal, and integrate every part of yourself.

What is "Parts Work?"

Parts Work is a way of viewing the self as composed of different "parts" that comprise the whole. Popularized by the Internal Family Systems model, parts work is used by many methodologies in psychology, including EMDR, Depth Hypnosis, Voice Dialogue, NLP, and psychosynthesis. 


Parts Work is respected in the clinical world and well-sought-after in the wellness space because of its non-pathologizing and holistic outlook on personal change. It sees the symptoms and problems that are bothering you as “parts” of you that are out of balance, misguided, or protecting you from suffering. 

Parts Work helps you become more self-aware, connect more deeply to your core/higher self, have compassion for yourself and others, experience inner harmony, feel less torn inside, and experience more internal integration.


My Theory of Parts Work

I am level 3 trained in Internal Family Systems. I am also trained in Depth Hypnosis and Applied Shamanism. My understanding of parts work is informed by my experience with these methods.


Being multi-faceted is a healthy part of being human. However, things start to go awry when “parts” of ourselves become wounded, misguided, take on misconceptions, become lost, get shut away, try to meet our needs in extreme ways, become compromised by the influences of others who may not care about your highest good, or even get given away to others.


Through Parts Work, you can reclaim lost parts of yourself, understand your feelings and needs better, release internalized messages or parts you've taken on from other people, connect to your higher self, resolve inner conflict, and feel more peaceful and whole.

What It's Helpful For

Parts Work is effective all along the spectrum of change, whether you are looking to recover from trauma and mental health issues or just looking to understand and love yourself better. It can be used to reduce stress, maintain healthy habits, and live a more conscious and harmonious lifestyle. It can also help relieve symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma, chronic pain, and other mental health complaints.

Through Parts Work, you learn how to become your own healer by harmonizing every part of your psyche with my gentle guidance. It is especially helpful if you feel torn, disconnected, at war with yourself, or are experiencing uncomfortable thoughts, emotions, or behaviors that you don’t understand or struggle to stop.

Parts Work is an experiential, imaginative, trauma-informed, and body-based framework grounded in mindfulness. It can be deeply transformative, emotionally touching, and sometimes even fun!



Emma Donovan, MA, LPC, LCPC, is a Depth Hypnosis Practitioner and Applied Shamanic Counselor. She also completed the highest level of official IFS training (level 3) in Barcelona, Spain. She has also completed an IFS-inspired Coaching course. 

She has created several parts work meditations that have been played over 100,000 times, and has taught Parts Work-inspired courses to thousands of students.

Currently, Emma uses Depth Hypnosis and a shamanic understanding as her primary theoretical approaches. Depth Hypnosis is similar to IFS in many ways, but there are some differences.
